| Most of our work is providing our clients with felony defense or defense of serious misdemeanors. There are six classes of felonies ranging from the most serious, such as first degree murder to the less serious, such as Driving After Revocation Prohibited or Exhibition with a prior conviction. They all have in common the provision for Department of Corrections (DOC) prison sentences as a possible penalty and are heard in the highest level of trial court in Colorado, the District Court. The more severe felonies provide for a preliminary hearing which is a screening device used to ensure that there is sufficient evidence to indicate that the case should proceed as is discussed further below.
